When growth gets harder, it’s rarely obvious why. This will tell you.

Companies engage Think & Grow for a Capability Review because…

Growth is exposing cracks and they can’t tell what’s a people problem, a structure problem or a strategy problem
A function is missing its numbers or not delivering, and they need to know why to avoid wasting money trying to fix it
They’re raising or selling and need a board-ready read on whether the leadership team can scale
They're rolling out AI and need to know whether the team has the skills, roles and change-readiness to adopt it before the transformation stalls on capability gaps
They’re entering a new market and need to know their commercial functions are ready for it
They suspect the right people are in the wrong seats, and want an objective view before they act
Think & Grow ensured we got the right skill sets and culture fit. We’re very happy with the work they did and the approach they took.

What is a Capability Review?

A Capability Review is a structured, independent assessment of your team (a whole leadership team, a single function like sales, or a newly merged org), against what your next stage of growth demands. We interview the people and map capability, structure, decision rights and gaps. You get a report on what’s working and what needs to be changed, with a prioritised set of actions to get started immediately.

We’re operators who’ve built and run these functions, so we assess on real scaling judgement, not a generic competency grid. And because it sits inside our Growth Stack, the findings flow straight into Organisational Design, Executive Search, and AI Business Transformation to act on them.

What you get with Capability Review

An independent review featuring key 1-1 interviews, run end-to-end by our in-house team and operators (a comprehensive report, not a tick-box audit). Scoped to your team, leadership or function, it’s built from a menu of components:

Scope & success criteria
1:1 stakeholder & team interviews
Capability workshop
Benchmarking against scaling best-practice
Leadership & competency assessment
Structure, decision-rights & communication review
Function deep-dive (e.g. sales pipeline, enablement, marketing alignment)
Gap analysis & red flags
Prioritised recommendations & roadmap
Board-ready readout
Our Work

Case studies

Sales team reached 120% of their target

We assessed Spotify's ANZ ad-sales team, diagnosed the leadership and local-market gaps, and delivered the hiring and training moves that took them to 120% of target within three months.

Board-ready leadership ahead of a raise

Think & Grow ran an independent capability review of the full executive team and delivered a leadership roadmap the board could use to guide its decisions through the next growth phase.

Identifying strengths in combined teams

After consolidating its technology teams, Kaluza needed to know whether the structure and capability could support what came next. We ran a capability review across the combined teams and mapped the existing strengths and additional ones needed.

Ready for the US, UK and EU

Before expanding, Safe Software needed to set its sales, marketing, and customer success functions up for success. We assessed the teams, surfaced the structural changes needed, and fed the findings into the expansion plan.

Operator-led expertise

Our team hasn’t just studied growth, they’ve done it.

Our in-house team and operators have built and run these teams and functions themselves, so we can benchmark against how companies scale successfully, and we’ll give you the comprehensive and honest read your own team can’t: what’s working, and what to change before it stalls or slows you down.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A structured, independent assessment of a team, leadership group or function against what your growth stage demands. Our reviews identify strengths, gaps and readiness, and deliver prioritised actions. It’s a diagnosis with a plan attached, not just a scorecard.

A whole leadership team (an executive 360), a single function such as sales or customer success, a newly merged or consolidated team, or the commercial functions behind a new-market launch. We scope it to the question you need answered.

Findings from stakeholder and team interviews, a benchmark against scaling best-practice, a capability and structure assessment, a gap analysis, and a prioritised set of recommendations, delivered as a board-ready readout.

The people running and building out your Capability Review are operators who’ve built and run these functions, so they judge on real scaling experience, not a generic template. And the review connects to the work that follows, Organisational Design and Executive Search, so you can act on it, not just store it away.

A focused review runs over a few weeks, depending on scope, the size of the team, the number of interviews and how many functions are in scope.

You get a prioritised roadmap. Most teams then move into Organisational Design to fix the structure, executive search to fill the gaps, or Leadership Alignment to get everyone on the same page and working towards the same goals.

Book a call. We’ll talk through what you need to know about your team, and scope the right review.
